Talk it Over!

Talk to your baby! That's how children learn language, and the sooner your child is exposed to it the better. When adults expect their children to listen and understand, children do. And a good vocabulary is the basis for good reading skills. Even before your baby begins to say words, he will enjoy the sound of your voice, and you will be building important skills that will serve him well when he begins to form words of his own. While you're getting him dressed, tell him what you're doing. When you're in the grocery store, talk to him about what you see and what you're buying. Don't believe that because he can't answer you yet, he's not benefiting from hearing your words. And be prepared for an exciting moment - the day he talks to you!
